Reddit answers many data center IP addresses with a 403 page that says "blocked by network security". Our own server in a London data center gets it on every request. So every week we send 8 ordinary requests to a subreddit page through each proxy we measure and record how often Reddit returns the page instead. Residential and mobile proxies get through almost every time. With datacenter proxies the result depends on the provider, from blocked on every request to passing nearly always. The table below updates itself after every run, and the latest results are from October 2026.

Latest run is the share of requests in the most recent run that returned the subreddit page. All runs is the average since we started measuring this proxy. CSV opens every request of that run with the exit country, network and a masked exit IP. Each provider name links to the "Our Test" section of its review, where the same run shows speed, response time and IP rotation.
What the results say
Rotating residential and mobile proxies. Reddit treats these exits as ordinary home and phone connections, and the results sit at or near the top for every provider we measure. For Reddit the choice between them comes down to price per GB and session control, not to whether the site lets you in.
Datacenter proxies. Here the type label tells you little. Reddit decides by the reputation of the IP range, so two shared datacenter products can give opposite results, and a dedicated datacenter IP from a clean range can pass where a shared one fails. If you want datacenter IPs for Reddit because they are cheaper per IP, buy the smallest package first and check it before you scale.
Which proxy type to choose for Reddit
| Task | Proxy type | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Reading and collecting public posts and comments | Rotating residential | Reddit lets them in, and a new IP per request or per short session spreads the load |
| Posting and commenting from your accounts | ISP (static residential) or dedicated mobile | One stable IP per account. An account that jumps between addresses mid-session looks shared |
| Many accounts at once | ISP or dedicated mobile, one per account | Keep each account on its own IP and its own browser profile, see proxies for multi-accounting |
| Lowest price per IP | Datacenter, after a test | Works only on IP ranges Reddit has not flagged, which varies by provider |

How we test
Each run sends 8 requests to https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/ through the proxy, from our server, with a regular Chrome user agent and no cookies, no browser and no login. A request passes when Reddit returns the subreddit page. It fails when Reddit shows its "blocked by network security" or "whoa there, pardner" page, answers with a rate limit or an error, or the proxy does not respond. Runs repeat every 7 days, the same schedule as the rest of our proxy benchmark. The full method is on our methodology page, and the test code is open on GitHub.
FAQ
- Does Reddit block proxies?
- Reddit blocks many data center IP addresses with a 403 "blocked by network security" page. In our weekly test residential and mobile proxies almost always got the subreddit page, while datacenter proxies passed or failed depending on the provider.
- What is the best proxy type for Reddit?
- For reading and collecting public posts, rotating residential proxies. For posting from accounts, a static ISP proxy or a dedicated mobile port, one IP per account.
- Why does Reddit say "blocked by network security"?
- That is Reddit's answer to an IP address it does not trust, most often an address from a data center. A different IP from the same range usually gets the same answer, so the fix is a different proxy type or a different provider, not a new IP from the same list.
- Do datacenter proxies work on Reddit?
- Sometimes. Reddit judges the IP range, so results differ by provider: in our test some datacenter products were blocked on every request and others passed almost every time. Test a small package before buying more.
- How often are the results updated?
- Every proxy in the table is measured every 7 days, and the table shows the latest run as soon as it is recorded.
